DC SchoolConnect

Program Summary

The Department of For-Hire Vehicles operates DC SchoolConnect, a transportation service for DC Public Schools (DCPS) and public charter schools in designated Safe Passage Zones in Wards 7 and 8. This program allows schools to select shared locations as designated pickup and drop-off locations.

How does it help?

Having safe transportation to and from school helps more kids attend school and worry less while they are in school. DC SchoolConnect vehicles pick up students close to home and drop them off in front of their schools. The program reduces the need for students to take long trips through areas of potential violence.

How much is invested?

For the fiscal year 2023, $6.1 million is invested in DC SchoolConnect for personnel, vehicles, and other operations-related costs.

Who uses this program?

The program opens enrollment to middle and high school students from select DCPS and public charter schools in Wards 7 and 8.
